Porlock Vale

Porlock Vale is made up of inland Porlock town and coastal Porlock Weir and the associated villages of West Porlock, Bossington, Allerford, and Culbone close to the coast, and Luccombe, Wootton Courtenay, Horner, Tivington and Selworthy further inland. It enjoys picturesque moorland and rivers, along with the glorious rugged coastline of West Somerset and villages full of historical features and charm.

The Coast Path in this area takes your from Culbone past firs and exotic pines on the hillside that indicate where Ashley Combe, an Italianate style mansion with breath-taking views across the Bristol Channel, once stood. It was once the home of Ada Byron Lovelace, a gifted mathematician and daughter of the celebrated poet. The trail takes you through two short tunnels, once part of the mansion’s grand Italian garden, heading into the woods at Worthy to join the beach at Gore Point to reach Porlock Weir with its bustling harbourside hotels, pubs and cafes. Leaving The Weir it heads across Porlock Marshes to Bossington with views of Hurlstone Point and Bossington Hill ahead of you.

It is an ideal base for walkers, riders, cyclists and adventure sport enthusiasts, with plenty of cosy pubs, tasty restaurants, shops selling local produce and accommodation for all budgets. There many circular routes to explore in the area.
